An Australian company, Star Scientific, is planning to invest $100 million to establish a clean hydrogen research and manufacturing base in New Mexico. The company aims to target the North American market with its Hydrogen Energy Release Optimiser (HERO) technology, which generates industrial-scale heat without burning gases or producing greenhouse gases. Star Scientific has signed a letter of intent with the New Mexico state government to secure a suitable site in Albuquerque for the facility. The company plans to create a sprawling research and manufacturing complex that will serve customers in the United States, Canada, and South America. The HERO technology, which can be applied to ceramics or certain metals, can rapidly increase temperature from zero to over 700 degrees Celsius in just three minutes. It has various applications, including off-grid power, desalination, and heavy industrial production. Star Scientific is currently in negotiations with the New Mexico Economic Development Department for incentives and hopes to break ground in late 2024.
