ShieldAI: Revolutionizing Defense Tech with Autonomous Drones

Defense tech company ShieldAI just scored a massive $200 million in funding, pushing its value up to a whopping $2.7 billion. This San Diego-based firm specializes in creating autonomous drones and military tech for the US and its allies. The funding round was led by Thomas Tull’s U.S. Innovative Technology Fund and co-led by Riot Ventures. Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest also got in on the action, along with returning investors Disruptive and Snowpoint. ShieldAI’s co-founder and president, Brandon Tseng, said they’re focused on developing cutting-edge technology for the modern era of warfare. He even compared the company to Tesla, but for aviation assets. Tseng also mentioned that ShieldAI has been working closely with Israel during its recent conflict with Hamas. One of the company’s standout innovations is its Hivemind autonomy software, which allows aircraft to operate without GPS and communication, making it harder for foreign adversaries like Russia and Iran to interfere with navigation. ShieldAI recently acquired Martin UAV and plans to integrate its Hivemind technology with Martin UAV’s V-BAT drones. In addition to the funding news, ShieldAI also announced a partnership with Boeing to collaborate on AI and autonomous defense programs. They’ve also launched a new product called V-BAT Teams, which uses AI to enable their drones to fly autonomously and work together in groups. ShieldAI was founded in 2015 by Brandon Tseng, his brother Ryan Tseng, and Andrew Reiter. With offices in San Diego, Dallas, and Washington, D.C., this company is making waves in the defense tech industry.
