Complaint Filed Against Resign DPS Board for Google Ads Encouraging Voters to Oust School Board Incumbents

A complaint has been filed against the group Resign DPS Board for running Google ads encouraging Denver voters to oust the incumbents on the school board in the upcoming election. The complaint alleges that the group failed to disclose spending $2,000 on the ads, which appeared when searching for a board member running for re-election. State law requires candidates or groups to report electioneering communications that cost more than $1,000 within 48 hours. The group, however, argues that they are promoting voter education and has taken down the ads. The complaint also claims that the group’s website contains examples of express advocacy without disclosing who paid for it or if it was authorized by any candidate. Resign DPS Board is not registered as a political committee with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office.
