The Return of Costa Coffee’s Beloved Black Forest Hot Chocolate

A Costa Coffee winter drink has made a comeback thanks to a die-hard fan. Emma Hammond launched an online campaign to bring back Costa Coffee’s Black Forest and Cream Hot Chocolate after it was removed from the Christmas menu in Autumn 2022.

Because of Emma’s love for the drink, Costa Coffee has decided to bring it back and has even named Emma the official Ambassador of Costa Coffee’s BFHC. As the ambassador, Emma’s important duty is to taste-test the first BFHC of the season to make sure it meets her and her fellow superfans’ expectations.

Emma expressed her joy at the return of the drink, saying, “I was devastated when I found out that Costa Coffee took Black Forest Hot Chocolate off its menu last year. It has always been a must-have for my festive celebrations, and not having it would have ruined everything! I’m thrilled to see it back early, and I’m honoured to be named Costa Coffee’s Black Forest Hot Chocolate Ambassador. I hope my fellow superfans are just as excited for their first Black Forest of the year!”

Emma wasn’t the only one upset about the drink being discontinued last year. Other superfans also voiced their disappointment on social media. Simon Molesworth said, “The Black Forest Hot Chocolate is the highlight of my festive season. The combination of syrup and hot chocolate is simply perfect, and it warms you up on a cold winter’s day.” Lauren Jane added, “I can’t even begin to describe how much I love the BFHC. Every year, I eagerly wait for Costa Coffee’s festive menu so I can treat myself to the most festive drink ever.”

Laura Baker shared, “The BFHC is the epitome of Christmas; it’s warm and inviting. It’s a sign that Christmas has truly arrived, and it’s time to make memories with loved ones over my favourite Christmas drink!” Hannah Barnes said, “The BFHC is more than just a drink; one sip holds countless memories!”

Superfans of the drink can enjoy it starting from today, October 19, exclusively on the Costa Club app. Sandra Ferreira, Beverage Innovation Director at Costa Coffee, said, “Our superfans’ love for the Black Forest Hot Chocolate is undeniable, especially after the nation’s outcry for its return last year. So, we’re excited to bring back one of the nation’s favourite classics, the Black Forest Hot Chocolate. And what better way to make a grand comeback than by giving our loyal Costa Club members exclusive early access!”

Apart from the Black Forest Hot Chocolate fandom, a staggering 64% of Brits have confessed to consuming the same food and drink products every single day. This habit doesn’t change with the seasons, with over half of them wishing they could have seasonal treats like festive drinks and mini eggs all year round. In fact, 28% of people even admit to stockpiling their favourite seasonal treats so they can enjoy them when they’re not usually available.

The Black Forest Hot Chocolate will officially return to the Costa Coffee menu on November 2. However, Costa Club customers can get their hands on it two weeks early this year by showing their Costa Coffee app in-store. If you’re not a member yet, you can download the Costa Coffee app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. For more information, visit: https://www.costa.co.uk/costa-club

Costa Club customers also have a chance to win one of 100 Costa Coffee Digital Black ‘Forest’ Cards. These digital rewards, which can be found in the Costa Coffee app, entitle the holder to a ‘Black Forest a Day’ this Christmas. To enter the competition, all you need to do is download and join Costa Club through the app. Good luck!
