Emory Healthcare to Test Virtual Patient Observer Technology

Emory Healthcare, based in Atlanta, is teaming up with Andor Health to test out virtual patient observer technology in its hospitals. The goal is to reduce the risk of falls and improve safety for patients. Starting in November, Emory will pilot the technology at two of its hospitals. The virtual observers, who will be stationed in a control center, will use voice-activated technology to communicate with patients remotely. They will remind patients to stay in bed and ask for help when needed. If there are any safety concerns, the observers will notify Emory Healthcare staff on-site. The monitoring services will be available 24/7. In the first year of the collaboration, Emory Healthcare will introduce the virtual patient observer technology in 32 inpatient rooms. In the second year, they plan to expand it to an additional 50 rooms.
