Get Ready for an Exciting Week of Skills and Tech

Hey everyone, check it out! The Skilled Trade and Technology Week has just kicked off in Saskatchewan, and it’s super exciting. Students from grades 8 to 12 are at Campus Regina Public, learning all about different skills, trades, and technology. They get to do hands-on activities in fields like construction, technology, and fashion over the next four days. How cool is that?

According to Jayden Leister, the executive director of Skills Canada Saskatchewan, it’s all about activity-based learning. He says, “The kids are going to come try different activities and get some exposure to some of the careers and technologies that are available to them. Hopefully, they’ll go home and remember that experience and maybe consider developing those skills in the future.” That’s awesome, right?

This whole week is all about promoting career opportunities in the skilled trade and technology sectors. It’s organized by Skills Canada Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC). And you know what? Jayden Leister himself benefited from Skills Canada competitions years ago and had a successful tech career. Now, he’s all about helping students explore and develop essential skills. How cool is that?

Jenna Tucker, a Grade 12 student, is super excited about this too. She developed an interest in trades when she was in Grade 9 and has taken various courses to figure out what fits her best. She says, “With these skills and opportunity at Campus Regina Public, it has opened up more chances for me to figure out maybe I want to go into plumbing, electrical, or construction.” That’s so inspiring!

The career fair is happening at Campus Regina Public, and it’s such a great opportunity for students to acquire trade and technology skills after school year-round. The principal, Larry Somers, believes that young people develop ideas they carry into their future from a very young age, so this exposure comes at a very good time. He says, “We got students here from Grade 8 right through to Grade 12 all looking at different options. I don’t think you are ever too young to start getting ideas and what passion you may want to follow in your future.” How awesome is that?

So, if you’re in Saskatchewan, make sure to check out the Skilled Trade and Technology Week. It’s all about exploring cool skills and finding your passion for the future. Who knows, you might just discover something amazing!
