CEO’s Morning Run Turns into Life-Saving Journey

1 min read

Paul Wapham, the 42-year-old CEO of Hockey Wales, had a scary experience during his regular morning run. He suddenly felt a massive chest pain, unlike anything he had felt before. Despite being a regular runner, he knew something was wrong. Paul described the pain as tight and then feeling like a vice was squeezing his chest. It was unbearable. Fortunately, he was able to use his smartwatch to call his wife, Laura, who quickly came to his rescue and took him to the hospital. Doctors later discovered that Paul had suffered a heart attack due to a total blockage in one of his arteries. This came as a shock to Paul and his family, as he had no known risk factors for a heart attack. Following an emergency angioplasty and stent procedure, Paul spent six days recovering in the coronary unit before being allowed to return home. He will continue his rehabilitation with after-care services at the hospital.
