Saab has come up with a cool idea to keep major airports running smoothly even in emergencies. They’re calling it the Integrated Digital Tower Suite (I-DTS), and it’s all about using high-tech stuff to make sure airports can keep going strong, no matter what happens.
The big idea is to use digital remote towers and air traffic control products to create a backup plan for airports. So, if something like a fire or an evacuation messes up the regular air traffic control tower, the I-DTS kicks in to keep things running smoothly.
Niclas Gustavsson, who’s a big shot at Saab, says that airports are dealing with a whole new set of challenges these days. If a regular tower can’t do its job, the backup plans just can’t handle the full load, and that’s a big problem for the economy and for getting people where they need to go.
Saab’s digital tower tech is already being used at smaller airports, but now they’re jazzing it up to make it work for the big guys too. By combining the digital towers with automated air traffic control, they’re making it even better. This means that air traffic controllers can keep an eye out for pesky drones and know exactly where they are.
Gustavsson thinks this tech could be a game-changer for airports, especially with all the craziness happening in the world. They’ve already got the tech ready to go, and they’re talking to three major international airports about using it. Plus, they’re planning to show it off at a big air show in Geneva next year.
With governments seeing airports as super important, Gustavsson says this tech will make airports stronger and more able to handle any problems that come their way. It’s not just about dealing with less traffic – it’s about being ready for anything, even when the airport is running at full speed.
