Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and in the Lehigh Valley, restaurants are getting creative with their menu offerings. From turkey egg rolls to Thanksgiving-inspired ice cream, the traditional holiday spread is being mashed up in unique and delicious ways. Let’s take a look at some of the mouth-watering creations that are making waves in the local food scene.
At Rustica Artisan, a restaurant in the Slate Belt, owner Jeff Coombs is serving up a unique twist on the traditional Thanksgiving meal. He’s taking the classic turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce and stuffing them all into an egg roll. And to top it off, he pours gravy over the top. According to Coombs, these Thanksgiving egg rolls are a huge hit and are flying out of the restaurant.
Last year, Rustica Artisan introduced Thanksgiving Bombs, which were a big hit. The bombs featured gravy and turkey in the center, surrounded by mashed potatoes and a dry cornbread stuffing, all deep-fried and served with cranberry sauce on the side. This year, the restaurant is bringing back the Thanksgiving egg rolls, which are only available during dinner hours in the weeks leading up to and following Thanksgiving.
Over at Palace Pizza Bar & Grill in Whitehall, the talk of the town is the Thanksgiving pizza that has recently made its way onto the menu. This unique pizza is topped with turkey, stuffing, gravy, and cranberries, and is available by the slice. Rumors of a Thanksgiving panini with fries have also been circulating, adding to the excitement.
Meanwhile, McCall Collective Brewing Co. in Allentown has introduced the Crivellaro, a mouth-watering local beef patty piled high with cranberry aioli, smoked turkey, smoked gouda, and lettuce on a potato bun. The owners have confirmed that the Crivellaro has been a huge hit with customers.
For those on the other side of the Valley, Rod’s Dogs in Easton is bringing back their popular turkey sandwich, featuring a toasted bun piled high with stuffing, turkey, and cranberries. According to a Facebook post, it’s the best turkey sandwich around, and fans are eager to get their hands on it.
If you’re feeling adventurous, Baskin-Robbins has introduced a new ice cream flavour inspired by Thanksgiving side dishes. The Turkey Day Fixin’s flavour combines sweet potato and autumn spice, with chunks of honey cornbread and swirls of cranberry sauce. This unique ice cream is available all month long at Baskin-Robbins locations nationwide.
For those who prefer their Thanksgiving favourites in sandwich form, Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop in Macungie has two turkey subs – The Bobbie and The Hot Bobbie – filled with slow-roasted turkey and topped with cranberry sauce, handmade stuffing, and mayo. And let’s not forget the classic Wawa Gobbler hoagie, as well as the Hot Turkey Gobbler Bowl featuring a base of mac and cheese, roasted veggies, hot turkey, and tart cranberry sauce.
With all these delicious and creative Thanksgiving mashups, it’s clear that the Lehigh Valley is embracing the holiday spirit in a truly unique way. Whether you’re a foodie looking for new culinary adventures or simply craving a taste of the holiday season, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Happy Thanksgiving, foodies!
