Empowering Women: The Story of Women Entreprenepreneurs

2 min read

have you heard about Women’s Entrepreneurship Day? It’s happening on November 19 and it’s all about shining a light on women entrepreneurs and the challenges they face. This day was started by Wendy Diamond, the founder of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organization (WEDO), back in 2014. It’s now celebrated in over a hundred countries! The goal is to empower women and create a more equal world through entrepreneurship.

Let’s take a look at some amazing women entrepreneurs. Marie Curie, the pioneering scientist, was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the only person to win it twice! She broke barriers and became the first woman professor in France. Then there’s Madam C.J. Walker, who started her business with just $2 and became the first African-American woman millionaire. Coco Chanel, known for her iconic fashion designs, changed the world of fashion with her simple and comfortable clothes. And Whitney Wolfe Herd, the CEO of Bumble, became the youngest billionaire in 2021.

The numbers show that there’s still a gender gap in entrepreneurship. In Spain, four out of every five entrepreneurs are men, and in Europe and North America, the majority of entrepreneurs are also men. When it comes to investment, startups founded by women receive less than 2% of the investment in Europe. It’s clear that there’s still work to be done to support and empower women entrepreneurs.
