Fujitsu’s Game-Changing Move in Mental Health Tech

3 min read

Fujitsu and Delight Health, a startup in the Bay Area, have teamed up to bring some serious innovation to the world of mental health. Fujitsu is sharing its Topological Data Analysis (TDA) technology with Delight Health, and in return, they’re getting a stake in the company. This move is all about helping Delight Health get their delirium detection device approved by the FDA and out into the world by 2024. The goal is to accurately predict the onset of delirium and provide better care for patients dealing with this condition.

So, what’s TDA all about? It’s an AI technology that can analyse complex and volatile time series data, and it has applications in healthcare, manufacturing, and infrastructure. Fujitsu and Dr. Shinozaki at Stanford University worked together on using TDA to detect delirium using EEG data. The result? They found a way to accurately detect delirium using a portable single-channel EEG device with the bispectral EEG (BSEEG) algorithm, all thanks to Fujitsu’s TDA technology. Their joint research even led to a research paper being published in 2021.

Fast forward to July 2023, and Dr. Shinozaki co-founded Delight Health to bring this groundbreaking technology to the market. Fujitsu is on board to support Delight Health with the TDA technology and take an equity position in the company.

Hideto (Ted) Okada, SVP and Head of Technology Strategy Unit at Fujitsu, is all about using advanced tech to solve real-world problems. He’s excited to partner with Delight Health to make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of people worldwide. And Prof. Gen Shinozaki, co-founder of Delight Health, is thrilled to have Fujitsu on board, recognising their joint collaboration and the scientific breakthroughs they’ve achieved.

Why is this partnership such a big deal? Well, delirium is a serious disorder that affects millions of people globally, with a 40% mortality rate in the US alone. Current methods of detecting delirium rely on questionnaires, which can be subjective and lead to incorrect diagnoses. That’s where AI comes in. Using AI for prediction and early detection can save lives and reduce healthcare costs.

Looking ahead, Fujitsu and Delight Health have big plans. Fujitsu wants to keep teaming up with innovative startups to tackle social challenges, while Delight Health is focused on integrating TDA into their delirium detection device and getting FDA approval. It’s all about using cutting-edge tech to make a real difference in the world.

So, there you have it. Fujitsu and Delight Health are joining forces to bring advanced tech to the world of mental health, and it’s a partnership that could change lives.
