Improving Men’s Mental Fitness with Mettle

2 min read

A new mental fitness application known as Mettle has recently been introduced, with the purpose of aiding men in enhancing their mental well-being. This app, developed in partnership with Imperial College London, is the brainchild of British explorer Bear Grylls and the UK Ambassador for Mental Health, Dr. Alex George. Mettle offers an array of mental fitness support and content, featuring contributions from notable figures such as Bear Grylls, Dr. Alex George, Paul McKenna, Chibs Okereke, and Jamie Clements.

Research conducted by Imperial College London has provided evidence supporting the necessity of such an app, specifically tailored to the needs of men. The research indicates that men are less inclined to seek psychological therapies or self-help compared to women, and approaches specifically designed for men are likely to be more effective.

Mettle places its focus on techniques such as meditation, breathwork, and hypnosis, which have been shown to significantly enhance mental health. The app is customised to each user and incorporates elements of gamification to promote regular usage, with an initial assessment establishing a mental fitness score. The app is currently available for download on the Apple App Store, with plans for release on the Google Play Store.

Bear Grylls, in addressing the launch, emphasised the necessity for effective support and tools to develop mental resilience. Dr. Alex George stressed the significance of improving mental fitness and resilience, while Neil Smith, Co-Founder & CEO of Mettle, underscored the neglect of men’s mental well-being and the consequential mental health crisis.

Mettle seeks to serve as a comprehensive resource for men, offering AI-supported, personalised tools to assist them in achieving greater happiness, health, and success. The app has garnered substantial interest, and its potential impact on men’s mental health is being eagerly anticipated.
