Quantum technology has emerged as a fascinating and potentially revolutionary field. This cutting-edge technology has the power to shape our future in ways previously unimaginable, much like other groundbreaking information technologies. Its immense possibilities have captured the attention of research centres, established companies, and startups on a global scale.
The world-renowned CERN, known for its groundbreaking inventions such as the World Wide Web, has been at the forefront of the quantum technology revolution. The Quantum Technology Initiative at CERN has paved the way for quantum computing, with the recent addition of the Open Quantum Institute (OQI). The OQI aims to extend the societal impact of CERN’s Quantum Technology Initiative by supporting projects that utilize quantum computing for the benefit of society.
In order to provide a platform for exploring cutting-edge topics in science and technology that impact society, CERN will host the Sparks! Forum. The third edition of the forum will be dedicated to the theme of Future Quantum and is set to take place on 16 November at the newly inaugurated auditorium of CERN Science Gateway. The forum will feature insightful discussions on the future of quantum technology and its current influence on our lives.
Eminent speakers, including Nicole Yunger Halpern, author of “Quantum Steampunk,” Mira L. Wolf-Bauwens, Responsible Quantum Computing Lead at IBM Research, and Rachel Maze, Head of Quantum Technologies Policy at the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, will share their expertise on the potential of quantum technology.
In a distinctive approach, the event will also incorporate the artistic perspective of dancers Wenchi Su and I-Fang Lin to explore the theme of quantum technology. The event will be moderated by the esteemed Bruno Giussani and is made possible through the support of the CERN & Society Foundation and Rolex.
As the world delves deeper into the realm of quantum technology, it is crucial to understand its implications and possibilities. The Sparks! Forum promises to offer a captivating and enlightening glimpse into the world of quantum technology, shedding light on the potential future it holds for us all.
