No. 8 Deli has been an integral part of the West Bridgford community for two decades. It stood out as a pioneering establishment, initially facing minimal competition on the high street with only Bird’s Bakery as a contender in the sandwich department. Despite the proliferation of coffee shops over the years, the deli has persevered through challenges such as the pandemic and economic downturns.
Founded by Jonathan and Ben Hyman, the deli initially adopted a full-service concept, offering an array of cheeses, charcuterie, olives, and antipasti. Alongside, sandwiches and coffee were also showcased, overseen by the brothers and a Spanish staff member. Despite the limited options for dining out and the scarcity of coffee shops at the time, the dedicated team managed to hold its own.
Presently, the deli has expanded its repertoire to include a diverse selection of fresh produce, a wholesale operation, and a newly established cafe with seating for patrons. During the pandemic, all deli produce shifted to the Fruit Basket, now rebranded as No. 4 The Food Store, where customers can access a wide range of fresh fruits, vegetables, and local offerings.
Furthermore, the deli has modernised its product range, encompassing fresh produce and a new Italian line of pasta and antipasti. The cafe now offers a bustling array of brunch options, sandwiches, beverages, and delectable desserts. Whether patrons desire eggs Benedict, freshly baked banana bread, or a zesty chorizo panini, No. 8 Deli accommodates every preference.
In the face of adversity, notably the recent COVID-19 pandemic, No. 8 Deli has exhibited resilience. By adapting to the evolving landscape, the deli navigated through uncertain times by offering home delivery services and unique products unavailable elsewhere. Additionally, the deli has endured financial challenges and price hikes, upholding its commitment to superior ingredients and exceptional service.
The success of No. 8 Deli can be attributed to its steadfast dedication to its core offerings and the local community. As the establishment commemorates 20 years in business, it remains a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the value of adhering to one’s roots. No doubt, No. 8 Deli will remain a cherished establishment in West Bridgford for years to come.
