“Stay Sober and Drink for Free: Cornwall Pubs Offer Free Soft Drinks to Designated Drivers”

2 min read

During the festive season, over 40 pubs in Cornwall are collaborating with Devon and Cornwall Police to provide designated drivers with complimentary soft drinks as part of the Lift Legend Campaign, aimed at deterring drink and drug driving.

In the previous winter, Devon and Cornwall Police detained 952 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This hazardous and illegal conduct is a leading cause of serious injuries and fatalities on roads in the South West. Therefore, it is imperative for individuals to find alternative transportation after a night out.

In alignment with the Lift Legend Campaign, nearly 100 establishments across Devon and Cornwall are taking part in this year’s initiative. Participating pubs are offering complimentary soft drinks to designated drivers who ensure the safe transportation of their companions, family, and colleagues.

To receive a free soft drink, designated drivers only need to inform the bartender of their sober status. Upon purchasing their first soft drink, they will be provided with a voucher for a complimentary one.

The participating venues span across Cornwall, including locations in Bude, Calstock, Fowey, St Austell, Padstow, Wadebridge, Bodmin, Camelford, Truro, Perranporth, Falmouth, St Keverne, Mullion, Lizard, Redruth, Helston, St Just, Perranuthnoe, St Ives, and Hayle. The extensive list of participating pubs ensures that designated drivers across the region can avail themselves of this generous offer.

The Lift Legend Campaign is a commendable endeavour to promote safe driving practices and decrease the prevalence of drink and drug driving. By incentivising designated drivers with complimentary soft drinks, it encourages responsible behaviour and ensures the welfare of all individuals on the road. This initiative not only benefits designated drivers but also acts as a reminder for everyone to plan their journeys home safely after a night out.

It is heartening to witness various establishments uniting to support such an important cause. Through their participation in this initiative, they not only promote responsible drinking but also advocate for the safety of their patrons and the broader community.

So, if you find yourself in Cornwall during the festive season, be sure to take advantage of this initiative and enjoy a free soft drink while fulfilling your responsibility to keep the roads safe. This campaign serves as a reminder for everyone to plan their journeys home responsibly, and the participating venues are to be commended for their support of this crucial cause.
