Empowering Tithe Recipients: MAIWP’s Successful Entrepreneurship Programme

3 min read

The Asnaf Entrepreneurship programme established by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has garnered significant attention and commendation, resulting in a total of 480 tithe recipients benefitting from the initiative as of last month. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar expressed his satisfaction with the programme, highlighting its remarkable success in surpassing the target of 450 asnaf.

Dr Mohd Na’im emphasised the paramount significance of elevating the livelihood of the asnaf and breaking the cycle of poverty. In alignment with this goal, MAIWP has introduced no less than 34 schemes for the asnaf, including an effective entrepreneurship training initiative which has positively impacted 480 individuals.

During his appearance as a guest on RTM’s Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme, Dr Mohd Na’im accredited the success of the programme to MAIWP’s strategic implementation under the Religious Affairs Transformation Plan Towards Malaysia MADANI (Al-Falah). This approach has not only empowered the asnaf through entrepreneurship but has also streamlined the halal certification process, reducing the processing period from 90 days to 30 days.

Additionally, this initiative has achieved an impressive 63 per cent of the applications for halal certification processed, exceeding the set target of 60 per cent. The strides made in shortening the processing period for halal certification reflect the commitment of MAIWP in driving positive change for the community.

The Asnaf Entrepreneurship programme serves as an exemplary model of how government authorities can make a tangible impact on the lives of the less fortunate. By providing training and opportunities for entrepreneurship, MAIWP is not only addressing the immediate financial needs of the tithe recipients but is also equipping them with the skills and knowledge to achieve sustainable livelihoods.

It is imperative for initiatives such as these to gain recognition and support, as they play a crucial role in fostering economic empowerment and social development within the community. The success of MAIWP’s programme is a testament to the potential for positive change when governmental bodies are dedicated to serving the needs of the people.

As we celebrate the accomplishments of the Asnaf Entrepreneurship programme, it is essential to acknowledge the efforts of the individuals and organisations that have contributed to its success. The commitment and dedication of the team at MAIWP, in conjunction with the vision and leadership of Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, have undoubtedly been instrumental in driving the programme forward.

In conclusion, the Asnaf Entrepreneurship programme has proven to be a beacon of hope for tithe recipients, offering them the means to not only break free from the cycle of poverty but to thrive as empowered entrepreneurs. As the programme continues to make a positive impact, it is our hope that similar initiatives will be implemented nationwide to uplift communities and create a more inclusive and prosperous society.
