As the year 2024 approaches, many individuals are contemplating their New Year’s resolutions, with a significant emphasis on health and fitness. A study conducted by Huawei in 2023 revealed that 92% of Europeans surveyed expressed a desire to enhance their overall health and well-being, while only 50% reported satisfaction with their physical fitness.
Huawei, a prominent manufacturer of fitness wearables, collaborated with Ipsos to undertake the “Huawei European Health Survey 2023” across eight European nations. The primary objective of the study was to gauge attitudes and awareness regarding health, as well as the utilization of smartwatches in relation to health consciousness and behaviour.
In a concerted effort to further their dedication to health and fitness, Huawei inaugurated the Huawei Health Lab in Helsinki, Finland in October of this year. Spanning nearly 11,000 square feet, the lab rigorously tests Huawei’s wearable sports and fitness algorithms in authentic settings. Athletes utilize the devices while engaging in a diverse range of cutting-edge fitness equipment tailored for over 20 sports. This Finnish facility is the third of its kind, with two other similar labs situated in China.
The lab orchestrates realistic sports simulations across various testing domains, meticulously monitoring over 200 physiological and biomechanical indicators as participants partake in different activities. These advanced devices, such as the Huawei Watch GT 4, facilitate the real-time tracking of indicators and the cultivation of healthy habits.
The Finnish lab also acknowledges Europe’s affinity for mountain sports, offering a ski simulator and a multifunctional treadmill capable of evaluating running, cycling, and wheelchair racing. Additionally, the lab encompasses its own counter-current pool to precisely assess swimming performance, complete with dynamic water jets and adjustable water temperature to emulate varying conditions.
At the heart of the fitness monitoring lies the Huawei Watch GT 4, with the lab leveraging its TruSport scientific training model to quantify users’ running ability, record and analyse data, and furnish personalized training recommendations and plans. The device also appraises cardiopulmonary capacity and delivers users with a comprehensive evaluation of their movement and performance during workouts.
With a focus on promoting improved health habits and diminishing reliance on healthcare, Huawei envisions bringing accessible, fashionable, and stylish digital health information to individuals, households, and institutions. As the company expands its outreach, it is anticipated that the widespread adoption of these devices will result in heightened health awareness and improved health behaviors in the region.
The complete report of the Huawei European Health Survey 2023 provides an in-depth exploration of the enlightening discoveries and the future of health and fitness in Europe.
