Sierra Commons, an esteemed organization dedicated to fostering a sustainable and resilient local economy, is poised to launch a pioneering five-week course in January, specially crafted to equip budding food entrepreneurs with the essential knowledge and skills required to successfully introduce their products into the market. The early bird registration for this highly anticipated course is now officially open.
Entitled the Food Entrepreneur Accelerator, the upcoming course will furnish participants with a thorough understanding of the foundational aspects involved in establishing and expanding an artisanal food business within rural and regional food systems. Robert Trent, the esteemed Executive Director of Sierra Commons, conveyed his profound enthusiasm for the imminent launch, underlining the profound impact it is expected to have on the regional food system.
The Food Entrepreneur Accelerator is slated to commence on January 16 and conclude on February 15, encompassing in-person classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, supplemented by online accountability meetups on Wednesdays. Drawing inspiration from the remarkable success of the long-standing Business Ignitor Course, the Food Entrepreneur Accelerator will focus exclusively on the intricacies related to launching or expanding a food product business.
Beyond addressing core topics, the program will also provide individualized advisement through the Sierra Small Business Development Center, valuable industry contacts, accountability meetups, peer mentorship, and an expert-attended pitch fest. A panel of distinguished instructors will guide participants through the course, culminating in a celebratory graduation ceremony to commemorate their successful completion of the program.
Crucial topics that will be covered include food permits, processed food registration, unconventional funding opportunities, manufacturing and scalability, pricing and distribution strategies, sourcing, storage, packaging, team building, operational streamlining, and brand development. The lineup of illustrious instructors includes the Director of Environmental Health of Nevada County, a prominent founder of a food product business, a distinguished general manager at a food co-op, and an accomplished chief marketing officer.
The primary objective of the course is to provide support to a wide spectrum of food-related businesses, including caterers, restaurant proprietors, and food truck operators. Trent also emphasized the program’s adaptability, extending an invitation to caterers and restaurants to contemplate the possibility of expanding their offerings to include retail products.
The early bird registration for the Food Entrepreneur Accelerator course is currently open, with a complimentary introductory call scheduled for December 11 to address any queries related to the program. Prospective participants are encouraged to register for the information session and complete their enrollment before the early bird registration deadline on January 2.
