Acer Inc. recently revealed its ambitious “Conscious Technology” vision at a press conference in Dubai, showcasing its dedication to developing and manufacturing technology with a focus on sustainability and the future.
During the event, the company also shared its ongoing efforts to address climate change, which included the introduction of two new energy storage solutions and the presentation of a climate exhibition featuring innovative technology and product concepts.
Acer’s commitment to environmental responsibility is evident through its participation in the RE100 initiative, where it has pledged to transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2035. Additionally, the company has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. As a major player in the global ICT industry, Acer is striving to make a positive impact on the environment through collaborative actions. Notably, 60% of Acer’s critical suppliers have committed to RE100 or established science-based carbon reduction targets.
One of the key initiatives highlighted by Acer is its goal to incorporate 20-30% post-consumer recycled plastic into its computers and monitors by 2025, a target for which it has already achieved a 17% utilization rate in 2022. Furthermore, the company is actively promoting its Vero line of products, which are manufactured with a high percentage of recycled materials, as part of its sustainability efforts.
Acer is also championing the cause of environmental awareness and action through its Project Humanity initiative, which aims to educate and unite its global workforce in implementing eco-friendly practices. Additionally, the company has developed the Earthion platform, which serves as a collaborative forum for its supply chain partners to address environmental challenges through innovative solutions.
The company’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint is evidenced by its commitment to reducing sea logistics emissions with biofuel and its research into sustainable packaging materials in partnership with its manufacturing collaborators.
Acer’s Chairman and CEO, Jason Chen, emphasised the urgency of combating climate change, stressing the need to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy. He also highlighted the company’s progress in renewable electricity usage, revealing that the Acer Group had reached 44% utilization in 2022, with plans to leverage solar and wind power in energy storage technology to achieve the 100% renewable energy goal.
In line with its net-zero commitment, Acer is expanding its role in the energy storage sector, offering a comprehensive range of solutions for various applications in both household and industrial settings.
The company also showcased its forward-looking exhibition, “Conscious Technology for a Brighter Tomorrow,” which is currently open to the public at Alserkal Avenue in Dubai. The exhibition presents innovative products and services aligned with four lifestyle concepts: Working, Learning, Moving, and Living. Visitors to the exhibition can explore revolutionary technologies designed to support sustainable living while learning more about Acer’s environmental initiatives and commitments.
