Boosting Fitness and Mental Well-being: New Parkour Classes for Youth in Nairn

A new opportunity is soon to be launched in Nairn for young people who are eager to enhance their physical fitness and mental health. Parkour classes, scheduled to commence in January at the Seaman’s Hall, aim to provide a space for participants to learn the art of efficient movement without the traditional constraints of other sports or activities.

Conducted by Kyle Wilkinson and Sam Gillespie of Ignotus Parkour, these classes are the result of an initiative that originated in neighbouring Moray. Both Kyle and Sam have personally experienced the transformative impact of parkour on their physical and mental well-being.

According to Kyle, parkour offers a sense of liberation from the strict rules and limitations often imposed by traditional sports. He attributes his improved physical health, explosive power, and speed to his practice of parkour, all of which have been beneficial for his athletic pursuits. He also emphasises the positive impact on his mental well-being, as his confidence has grown through his engagement with the sport.

Similarly, Sam’s personal journey with parkour has been one of overcoming depression and obesity during his early teenage years. He found solace and a path to improved physical health through parkour, which he passionately advocates for.

One of the defining aspects of parkour is its inclusivity and flexibility. Unlike traditional sports, there are no strict rules about clothing or equipment, allowing individuals of all backgrounds and abilities to participate.
