The Weetabix Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards has recently announced the finalists for its esteemed dining categories. The lineup is highly competitive, with four distinct categories – Gastro Pub of the Year, Community Café of the Year, Restaurant of the Year, and World Cuisine Restaurant of the Year. The winners will be officially revealed in November at the annual Awards ceremony following the final Mystery Shopping visits.

The founder of the awards, Rachel Mallows MBE DL, views the event as a significant opportunity to champion and acknowledge the exceptional culinary establishments in Northamptonshire. With the support of new and existing sponsors, the objective is to illuminate the diverse eateries in the county and encourage increased patronage.

Prominent figures in the food and drink industry, such as Booker, The Good Loaf, The Greedy Gordon pub group, and British Pepper and Spice, have sponsored each category. Their support is instrumental in showcasing and celebrating the best of Northamptonshire’s dining scene.

Notably, the Community Café of the Year category recognises coffee shops that surpass expectations in both quality offerings and contributions to the local community. The Good Loaf is the primary supporter of this category, underscoring the social impact of these establishments in their respective areas.

Adrian Hornigold, Catering Development Manager from Booker, expressed his fervour and admiration for the resilience and creativity demonstrated by the county’s gastro pubs. “It is amazing to see the resilience, creativity, and excellent mystery shopping feedback for our hardworking pubs across the county,” he remarked.

The World Cuisine Restaurant of the Year category, sponsored by British Pepper & Spice, has generated significant anticipation for its winners. The decision-making process has been challenging due to the strong field of competitors, driven by the originality and quality of menus, as well as the remarkable talent of the chefs.

The finalists for each category feature a blend of familiar names and hidden gems. From The Kings Arms in Polebrook to Happy Mondays in Rushden, the competition is fierce and underscores the remarkable diversity of dining options available across the county.

The Gala Dinner at the Royal & Derngate on November 1st, 2023, will serve as the crowning event for the Awards – a celebration of the achievements and successes of Northamptonshire Food and Drink businesses and individuals.

To remain updated with the latest developments, individuals can follow the Awards on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. It is encouraged to use the hashtag #WFDA23 to engage in the conversation and demonstrate support for the nominees.
