Deer Steer Clear in Utah Skies as Conservation Authorities Track Migration Routes

In a remarkable display reminiscent of a scene from a fairytale, deer were airlifted through the skies of Utah via a helicopter in order to facilitate the study of their migration habits. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (Utah DWR) undertook this annual research initiative, capturing approximately 1,200 deer for this purpose.

Following this event, the Utah DWR made use of their official Facebook page to dispel any potential misconceptions regarding the sight of airborne deer, emphasizing that the spectacle did not involve “Santa’s flying reindeer.” Instead, the event served as a significant component of the Division’s concerted efforts to comprehensively study the migratory patterns of the local deer population.

Upon capture, the deer underwent comprehensive health assessments and were subsequently equipped with GPS collars before being safely released back into their natural habitats.
