Warning to Car Owners: Thieves Using High-Tech Methods to Target Vehicles

A recent increase in car thefts in the Mid Ulster region has prompted a critical call for information from the police. According to reports, thieves have targeted eight BMW cars in December alone, in addition to five incidents in September and October.

The thefts, primarily involving keyless entry technology, have raised concerns among car owners about the security of their vehicles. Detective Sergeant Murphy, who is leading the investigation, has appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

In a formal statement, Detective Sergeant Murphy urged the public to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to safeguard their cars. He stated, “With advancements in technology, thieves can access your vehicle by intercepting the wireless signal from your key fob. I would advise the use of a blocking pouch known as a Faraday pouch to block the wireless signal from your key fob.”

Concerns over the thefts from BMW cars have led the police to issue a warning to car owners. It is recommended to use a garage, if available, to secure the vehicle and keep all car keys away from external doors and walls. Additionally, the public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity or information to aid in the investigation.

As the number of incidents continues to rise, car owners are advised to exercise caution and take measures to protect their vehicles from potential theft. The police have also provided contact information for reporting any relevant information to assist with the ongoing investigation.

As the authorities continue to investigate the incidents, the public is urged to remain proactive in safeguarding their vehicles and to report any information that may assist in addressing the issue of car thefts in the area.
