Microsoft is poised to unveil its new and enhanced Surface PC range, reportedly featuring highly advanced AI-powered capabilities. Known as CADMUS, these new devices are expected to be powered by a next-generation neural processing unit, offering options in both Intel and ARM variations.
As per a report by Windows Central’s Zac Bowden, based on information from undisclosed sources, the upcoming Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 are anticipated to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X chips, while the Intel-powered variants will feature the company’s cutting-edge 14th Gen processors.
The integration of new NPU chips will enable the smooth operation of the AI features that Microsoft intends to include in the next major version of Windows currently under development. Furthermore, the hardware upgrade is anticipated to bring significant improvements in areas such as battery life, security, and performance – aligning with Apple silicon.
Additionally, the report provides insight into the features of the Surface Laptop 6, revealing an increase in screen size from 13.5 inches to 13.8 inches, alongside a sleek rounded display and slimmer bezels reminiscent of the Surface Pro 10. The device is also expected to incorporate a touchpad with haptic feedback and a dedicated button for accessing Microsoft Copilot, the company’s AI-powered chatbot.
On the connectivity front, the Surface Laptop 6 is speculated to include a USB-A port, two USB-C ports, and a Surface Connect port for charging. As for the Surface Pro 10, it is expected to maintain a pricing structure similar to its predecessor and may be formally announced in the spring of 2024. Furthermore, Microsoft has outlined plans for a revamped Surface Pro and a Surface Laptop Studio in 2025.
