Susanna Reid’s Health Scare and Lifestyle Change

Television presenter Susanna Reid has recently shared a health scare that prompted her to make changes to her morning routine. In an interview with Woman&Home, the host of Good Morning Britain recounted the experience of losing her voice earlier in the year, which ultimately led to a hospital visit.

The 53-year-old disclosed, “Losing my voice earlier this year was a bit of a scare. Everyone gets a bit croaky from time to time, but I could not get any noise out of my vocal cords and that’s never happened before.” Subsequently, she sought medical attention and underwent a comprehensive examination, including a procedure in which a camera was inserted down her throat. The specialist suspected an unnoticed virus may have been the cause, as Susanna had continued to work without properly addressing her health.

In light of the health scare, Susanna has adjusted her daily routine. She acknowledged that she had been consuming an excessive amount of coffee in the mornings. “The doctor was quite surprised that I don’t drink more water and that I drink quite a lot of coffee, so I have tried to cut down a bit. One morning we worked out that I had eight coffees,” she admitted. Additionally, she mentioned that she now alternates her coffee intake with ginger tea to reduce her overall caffeine consumption.

This revelation comes after Susanna had to take a step back from her presenting responsibilities on Good Morning Britain in September due to a loss of voice following an event at the National Television Awards. Following specialist treatment, she shared an update on Instagram with the hope of returning to the show soon. It was later explained that a mild infection in her vocal chords had led to the voice loss.

Susanna has been open about her health in the past. In an episode of the ITV news show in June, she discussed her initial hesitations about booking a mammogram screening. However, she eventually went for the appointment and encouraged others to do the same, noting, “It wasn’t the least bit painful or uncomfortable, I was expecting it to be far, far worse. The results came within a few weeks and it came back all clear.”

Susanna’s candour about her health experiences serves as a reminder for everyone to pay attention to their well-being and not hesitate to seek medical advice when necessary.
