A recent study carried out by Ricoh Europe has revealed a widespread dissatisfaction among European workers regarding the technology provided by their employers. The research, which surveyed 6,000 employees across the continent, demonstrated that a significant number of workers feel that their employers are failing to provide up-to-date technology that would enhance their productivity.
The findings show that 41 per cent of European employees believe that their employers are falling behind in adopting technology that would benefit them in the workplace. Additionally, 33 per cent of respondents reported that their remote work setup is hindering their productivity, while 59 per cent feel burdened by high administrative workloads. Alarmingly, only 64 per cent of European workers believe that their employers are providing them with the necessary technology to perform their duties effectively, indicating a significant missed opportunity.
Ricoh Europe has recommended that businesses consider implementing process automation and workplace experience tools to facilitate collaboration and streamline repetitive workflows, thereby enabling employees to focus on value-added tasks. The company emphasizes that the integration of cutting-edge technology, such as Workplace Experience Platforms, AV solutions, and enterprise content management, can alleviate administrative burdens and enable workers to dedicate more time to tasks that contribute meaningfully to the organization.
The consequences of failing to address these discrepancies are not trivial, as Ricoh warns that inaction may result in the loss of valuable employees who seek more accommodating workplaces. The study revealed that 28 per cent of workers identified working conditions and employee experience as motivating factors for seeking alternative employment, while 20 per cent cited the quality of workplace technology as a key consideration when contemplating a job switch.
Moreover, a substantial 69 per cent of employees expressed the belief that they could deliver more value to their companies if provided with the right tools and technologies. Consequently, the benefits of rectifying this situation extend beyond talent acquisition and retention and are intrinsically tied to the productivity and success of the organization as a whole.
Addressing the implications of the study, Nicola Downing, CEO of Ricoh Europe, stressed the importance of aligning technology offerings with employee needs, particularly in the realms of process automation and workplace experience. Ms. Downing underscored the potential of such initiatives in enhancing employee productivity and enabling them to focus on tasks where they can make significant contributions. She further cautioned that businesses that overlook employee experience around workplace technology are at risk of losing valued team members to competitors who are more attuned to their needs.
The research, conducted by Opinium, encompassed 1,000 office workers in each of the following markets: UK & Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. The extensive scope of the study has provided valuable insights into the prevailing sentiments of employees across Europe and underscores the urgent need for businesses to reassess their approach to workplace technology.
