David S. Layton, Chief Executive Officer of Layton Construction, has been honoured as the Entrepreneur of the Year for 2024 by MountainWest Capital Network (MWCN). This esteemed accolade is reserved for individuals who have significantly impacted the business sphere, displayed exceptional entrepreneurial foresight, and made substantial contributions to their community.
Assuming leadership of the family construction enterprise in 2004, Layton effectively elevated the company into a nationally respected construction juggernaut. Under his stewardship, Layton Construction has expanded its operations to 12 offices nationwide, employing a workforce of 1,300 individuals. The company has spearheaded the completion of several renowned projects in Utah, including the construction of Rice-Eccles Stadium, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Eccles Theater, Tuacahn Center for the Arts, and various endeavors for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Layton’s innovative leadership has enabled the company to diversify its portfolio and undertake projects in 42 states, solidifying Layton Construction as a leading healthcare builder in the country. The company’s annual revenue has reached a staggering $3.5 billion, securing the top spot on MWCN’s ranking of top revenue growth companies for the past four years.
In expressing gratitude for the award, Layton attributed the achievement to the legacy of his father and brother, as well as the dedication of longstanding employees. He underscored the company’s core values of integrity, safety, excellence, and solidarity, which continue to guide its operations. Layton also emphasised the company’s philanthropic endeavours, particularly in cancer research and higher education, and its commitment to supporting local communities.
In addition to his business acumen, Layton has been passionately involved in philanthropy, serving on several community boards and contributing to cancer research through the Julie M. and David S. Layton Foundation. He has also been a significant figure in sports, serving as a member of the Salt Lake City Committee for the Olympic Games and the Utah Sports Commission board of trustees, where he has played an instrumental role in bringing diverse sporting events to the state.
The MWCN Entrepreneur of the Year event, at which Layton will be honored, is scheduled to take place on January 31, 2024, at the Little America Hotel.
