Tech Veteran Warren East Takes the Helm at Leeds Climate Tech Company C-Capture

Renowned technology industry veteran Warren East CBE, who recently concluded his tenure at Rolls-Royce, has taken on the role of chairman at Leeds-based C-Capture. The primary objective of C-Capture is to develop an innovative carbon capture process, utilizing the company’s distinctive solvent-based technology to directly capture CO2 from industrial flue gases.

The company’s approach is centred on scalability and modularity, with the aim of reducing the cost of carbon capture in comparison to current solutions while catering to a wide array of hard-to-abate industries. C-Capture has garnered the support of various investors, including Drax, IP Group, bp Ventures, Northern Gritstone, and the UK government.

The CEO of C-Capture, Tom White, has expressed his enthusiasm at having Warren East join the company, citing his extensive experience in commercializing novel technologies and his dedication to the energy transition as invaluable assets during this critical period of growth. In turn, Mr. East has expressed his eagerness at joining the team and contributing to the scaling of the business, recognizing the groundbreaking potential of C-Capture’s carbon capture technology.

Warren East brings with him nearly four decades of industrial and technological expertise, including his notable stints at Texas Instruments, ARM, and his recent role as CEO of Rolls-Royce. Throughout his career, he has been instrumental in driving companies through periods of transformation and modernization, making significant contributions to the technology and engineering sectors.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. East also holds multiple academic qualifications and is actively involved in charitable initiatives, further highlighting his well-rounded and impactful contributions both within and beyond his professional sphere.

The announcement of Warren East’s appointment coincides with the news of Drax obtaining planning permission for a large-scale carbon capture project at its North Yorkshire biomass power station. C-Capture’s ongoing trial at the Drax power station has already demonstrated promising results, with the potential for the technology to be integrated into Drax’s operations.
