The ongoing revitalization of Sheepfolds is reaching a significant milestone with the highly anticipated opening of Sheepfolds Stables in late spring/early summer of 2024. The former stable block, which was once home to working horses, has been redesigned to accommodate eight shop-fronted units and two open courtyards, providing outdoor spaces for events and entertainment. Below is an overview of the eight operators who have been announced for the site.
1. Propa by Si King
The renowned Hairy Biker Si King will introduce a new dining concept, Propa, to Sheepfolds Stables. This street food offering promises hearty dishes with a unique twist, evoking a sense of nostalgia with forgotten classics from the past.
2. I Scream for Pizza
I Scream for Pizza, a well-established name with two successful sites in Newcastle, will offer New York-style pizzas and soft serve ice cream at the former horse hospital at Sheepfolds. The 60-seater restaurant will also feature a grab-and-go counter, ideal for those looking to grab a slice on match days.
3. The Calabash Tree
At The Calabash Tree, patrons can enjoy Trinidadian-inspired cuisine, featuring classic Caribbean dishes such as curries, rice and peas, jerk chicken, and saltfish. Former Washington firefighter Ryan McVay is the mastermind behind this culinary venture, honoring his heritage through innovative menu offerings, including plenty of vegan and gluten-free options.
4. Ember
Bringing the rich and diverse flavors of Asia to Sheepfolds, Ember promises to be a culinary delight. The restaurant will be led by skilled chef Tamer Hassan, who has an impressive background, having won series one of Gordon Ramsay’s F Word and worked alongside esteemed chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Mark Sargent, and Angela Harnett.
The addition of these exciting operators is set to elevate Sheepfolds Stables, offering a diverse range of culinary experiences for both locals and visitors. With its unique blend of offerings, the site is positioned to become a popular destination, contributing to the vibrant revitalization of Sheepfolds.
