To enhance the number of Māori startups in Aotearoa, Tapuwae Roa is proud to announce the 2024 Rakahinonga Roadshow, which will include a new series of online and regional wānanga. These interactive workshops will be led by business mentor Saara Tawha of Ramaroa Ltd and Amy Mclean of Te Kāinga Wāhine, aimed at fostering Māori entrepreneurship by equipping participants with essential tools and skills to bring their business ideas to life.
Te Pūoho Kātene, the Kaihautū of Tapuwae Roa, has expressed the organization’s enthusiasm for the initiative, noting the community’s strong interest in carving their own paths in business during the November roadshows. “These workshops are designed to introduce aspiring Māori entrepreneurs to tools and resources that will help bring their business aspirations to fruition,” Kātene stated.
Recognizing that geography remains a significant barrier for many Māori individuals, Kātene highlighted that hosting the roadshow online would enable Tapuwae Roa to reach a broader audience within their communities. The initiative aims to address the challenges faced by Māori when entering the entrepreneurial landscape and to enhance economic resilience within Māori families.
Kātene drew inspiration from the words of Tāwhiao, “nāku anō te hanga o tōku nei whare”, emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurship as a means to enable economic self-determination for the Māori people, and to create strong and prosperous Māori communities on their own terms.
Scheduled to take place throughout February and March, the roadshow will include wānanga sessions in Gisborne, Ōtaki, as well as online. Interested individuals are urged to register early, as spaces are limited.
