The new economic outlook of the region is propelled by the Dubai Government’s strong commitment to fostering the potential of its people, particularly the youth, with a focus on promoting sustainable development and entrepreneurship.
A key driving force behind Hatta’s entrepreneurial resurgence is an ambitious plan set by the Mohammed bin Rashid Establishment for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Dubai SME) to support startups in the region by the year 2023. Through this initiative, Dubai SME aims to instill confidence in the youth of Hatta, empowering them to transform their innovative business ideas into reality.
In line with the directives of the region’s leadership, Dubai SME has been actively organizing specialized training courses and programs to provide guidance to aspiring young entrepreneurs in Hatta who are looking to establish or expand their businesses. The success of these programs is evident from the substantial participation they have garnered from across the region.
Moreover, to facilitate the growth of startups, Dubai SME has supported the issuance of 45 fee-exempt commercial licenses in Hatta to date, successfully reducing entry barriers for new businesses and promoting economic innovation within the region. As a result, numerous success stories have emerged across diverse sectors in Hatta, ranging from food, farms, tourism, fitness centers, to construction and contracting, among others.
Notable among the success stories is the apiary project in Hatta, which has received support from Dubai SME and has become a key contributor to the local agriculture sector. Another thriving venture is the Hatta Kayak company, which received backing from Dubai SME in obtaining necessary approvals and licensing, contributing significantly to local economic and community development.
CEO of Dubai SME, His Excellency Abdul Baset Al Janahi, emphasized the value of empowering young entrepreneurs and businesses, highlighting Dubai SME’s commitment to consistently support them at every stage of their journey. This support extends even after businesses have been established, with Dubai SME providing additional capital and necessary training as required.
Notably, the recent Hatta Festival organized by Brand Dubai showcased the growing presence of local businesses in the region, where over half of the participating enterprises originated from Hatta. This event provided a platform for Hatta-based companies to showcase their products, reflecting the robust entrepreneurial spirit in the region.
To further facilitate youth enterprise in Hatta, Dubai SME has set up a business facilitation centre, Tasheel, at the Hatta Community Centre, offering smart services and fee-exempt licenses, as well as access to co-working spaces and meeting rooms. This initiative aims to provide essential support to startups and encourage community networking.
Looking ahead, the Hatta Master Development Plan – an integral part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan – envisions a myriad of development initiatives in Hatta, emphasizing wellness, tourism, sports, and sustainability. This plan supports various projects that align with the immediate and future aspirations of the region.
With the establishment of the Hatta Traders Council, aspiring entrepreneurs and young business minds in the region now have a platform to seek support and encouragement, amplifying their prospects for success and growth. The council, under the auspices of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is dedicated to unlocking new economic opportunities and maximizing their benefits.
