Amid recent reports from various industry insiders, it has come to light that DJI Automotive has attracted the investment intentions of BYD and FAW Group. The interested parties are currently taking steps to move the financing process forward, with DJI Automotive’s valuation for external investment institutions standing at around 10 billion RMB.
In addition to its dealings with DJI Automotive, BYD had also expressed an interest in collaborating with Huawei’s Car BU. Regrettably, Huawei’s Car BU felt that there was limited potential for cooperation and, as a result, politely declined, leading to a mutual decision to not pursue substantial investment processes.
DJI Carrying, a subsidiary of DJI, has predominantly focused on the “cost-effectiveness” route and recently introduced the “Chengxing Platform,” a next-generation intelligent driving solution. Notably, this platform facilitates urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) without the need for high-precision maps and LiDAR, and is slated for mass production in the near future.
According to DJI, the “Chengxing Platform” is designed to leverage hardware capabilities within limited resources and power constraints in order to deliver advanced intelligent driving functions. This enables vehicles with varying power modes to be equipped with cutting-edge intelligent driving capabilities, with plans to gradually introduce the outcomes of this initiative to consumers within the year.
DJI Automotive had previously been incorporated into the Baojun Cloudy Rhino Edition car, featuring an 8-megapixel inertial dual-camera alongside four surround-view cameras and one rear monocular camera as its core perception hardware. By embracing a “mapless” approach that does away with high-precision maps, DJI Automotive has been able to realize advanced intelligent driving capabilities on a nationwide scale.
In a related development, BYD and DJI jointly launched the world’s first vehicle-integrated UAS, marking a pivotal moment in the convergence of automotive and drone technology.
This investment interest from BYD and FAW Group in DJI Automotive presents a significant milestone, with the potential to propel advancements in the development of intelligent driving solutions that offer both efficiency and innovation. As the financing process continues to unfold and partnerships solidify, the automotive industry can anticipate noteworthy progress in the integration of cutting-edge technologies and smart mobility solutions.
