In the most recent league table released by GlobalData, Rothschild & Co has emerged as the preeminent financial advisor in the power sector’s mergers and acquisitions (M&A) for the year 2023, leading in both value and volume. The company solidified its dominance by advising on 22 deals with a combined value of $16 billion, as documented in GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database.

Following Rothschild & Co in the rankings is Goldman Sachs, securing the second position in terms of value with transactions totalling $11.7 billion. Barclays closely trailed behind, capturing the third rank with its involvement in deals amounting to $10.7 billion. Lazard and the Bank of America also played significant roles, securing the fourth and fifth positions, with deals worth $9.6 billion and $9.5 billion, respectively.

Aurojyoti Bose, lead analyst at GlobalData, pointed out that “Rothschild & Co was the top adviser by volume in 2022 and continued to maintain its leadership position in 2023 as well, despite a decrease in the number of deals advised. However, it experienced an increase in deal value and an advancement in its ranking by value in 2023 compared to 2022. Rothschild & Co went from occupying the sixth position by value in 2022 to topping the chart in 2023.”

He further added, “Involvement in two billion-dollar deals, including a mega-deal valued at more than $10 billion, was pivotal for it in leading the chart by value.”

In terms of volume, KPMG held the second position, having advised on 21 deals, followed by Ernst & Young and PwC with 16 deals, and JP Morgan with 13.
