MAN Truck & Bus is currently undertaking a substantial expansion of its spare parts logistics at its global service centre located in Salzgitter, Germany. The plan encompasses an expansion of the logistics centre by 52,650 square meters, resulting in a total area of 230,000 square meters and the creation of space for an additional 40,000 parts.
It is anticipated that the extension of the logistics centre will be finalized by the end of this current year, with operations slated to commence in mid-2025. This enlargement will not only bolster MAN’s capacity to meet the escalating demand for components for electric trucks, but will also reiterate its dedication to furnishing swift and dependable service to its clientele worldwide.
Quoting Michael Kobriger, MAN’s Chief Production and Logistics Officer, “The logistics center guarantees the prompt and reliable supply of our customers worldwide. In the future, we will also dispatch parts and spare parts for our e-vehicles from here – including batteries and battery parts. This move further fortifies MAN in Lower Saxony and the Salzgitter site.”
MAN has been steadily gaining ground in the electric vehicle market, achieving the remarkable feat of selling its 1,000th electric bus. The company is poised to commence the production of e-trucks for delivery to customers in 2024, with an impressive 700 orders and pre-orders already in the pipeline within a mere three months of the sales launch.
In view of these developments, provisions have been made to equip the warehouse for high-voltage technology, and the relevant employees have received specialized training to facilitate the handling of electric vehicle parts.
The Salzgitter spare parts center is an integral part of MAN’s global Spare Parts Network and possesses a critical role in delivering parts to over 2,700 dispatch addresses across more than 120 countries. At present, it stocks an extensive range of 200,000 different parts and operates as the primary supplier to five MAN regional warehouses situated in Italy, France, Great Britain, Dachau in Germany, and Turkey.
The recent commencement of the expansion project at the Salzgitter site was attended by several prominent figures, including MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp, Head of Production and Logistics Michael Kobriger, head of Human Resources and Truck & Bus at Volkswagen Gunnar Kilian, Lower Saxony’s state secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs Frank Doods, and Salzgitter’s lord mayor Frank Klingebiel.
In conclusion, MAN Truck & Bus is making significant strides in consolidating its position in the electric vehicle market and enhancing its global spare parts logistics. The expansion of the logistics center in Salzgitter underscores the company’s steadfast commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its discerning clientele across the globe.
