The Unmissable Tire Technology Expo Conference Presentations

The tire industry is preparing for the imminent Tire Technology Expo, a highly anticipated event that showcases the latest advancements in tire manufacturing. I, as the editor-in-chief Matt Ross, have personally selected a number of presentations from the program for your consideration. This year’s expo and conference will be held at the Deutsche Messe in Hannover from March 19 to March 21, 2024. For those interested in attending, the full program is available for viewing and conference passes can be booked here.

One of the highlights is a presentation by Guy Heywood, vice president of Hankook Tire Europe, who will provide an insightful overview of the current state of the tire industry, as well as the challenges and opportunities it can expect in the foreseeable future. With his extensive knowledge and experience, Heywood is well-positioned to offer valuable insights into the tire industry.

Another intriguing session features Dr. Toshio Tada, head of the new generation materials R&D office at Sumitomo Rubber Industries, who will delve into the innovative concept of active tread and its role in shaping the future of mobile society. Given Dr. Tada’s involvement in the Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence, attendees can expect a thorough exploration of emerging technologies crucial to the next generation of tire solutions.

The BlackCycle European project, led by Dr. Jean-Michel Douarre of Michelin, has made significant strides in tire sustainability by recycling end-of-life tires into new ones. Dr. Douarre’s presentation promises to offer valuable insights into the latest achievements stemming from this impactful project.

Addressing the crucial matter of tire and road wear particles, Dr. Larisa Kryachkova, executive director of the WBCSD Tire Industry Project, will provide an update on TIP-sponsored tire-emission research and mitigation efforts. This session is particularly noteworthy given the growing importance of studying, evaluating, and mitigating tire-related environmental issues.

Moreover, the integration of AI in the tire industry will be explored by Dr. Mohammad Behroozi and Dr. Georgios Mavros from Loughborough University, who will discuss the use of AI-based platforms in tire science and technology. As AI continues to revolutionize various industries, this presentation will highlight the practical implementation of AI-driven tools within the tire sector.

Guido Veit, vice president of sales in plastic and rubber at Zeppelin Systems, will provide an update on the Sustainable Tire Alliance, a collaborative effort focused on sustainable tire production. With the addition of new members, Veit’s session will showcase the progress made by the consortium over the past year.

Additionally, a panel of experts including Kanwar Bharat Singh of Goodyear, Eduardo Minardi of Minardi Global, Angus Webb of Dynamon, Aleksandr Timofeev of PolyN Technology, and Keith Ferry of Cerebrum Sensor Technologies will engage in a compelling discussion on building a digital world for tires. The increasing intersection between digital technologies and the tire industry makes this panel discussion a vital component of the conference program.

Dr. Bernd Löwenhaupt, managing director of Sumitomo Rubber Europe, will present SRI’s circular economy concept – TOWANOWA, which promises to revolutionize tire sustainability and data utilization. With SRI consistently introducing groundbreaking concepts, this presentation is anticipated to be equally thought-provoking.

The conference will also feature Dalia Broggi, project manager for scientific research at the European Commission, who will shed light on the new regulatory requirements for tire compliance when worn. This includes a discussion of the recent developments of regulatory frameworks for worn tires and the European Commission’s role in European market surveillance activities.
