OPES Solar Mobility, a state-of-the-art automotive solar technology company, is pleased to announce the establishment of a new facility in the town of Zwenkau, Germany. This expansive facility covers an impressive 12,000 square meters and will be dedicated to the development of vehicle-integrated photovoltaics for trucks, motor homes, and buses, with production scheduled to commence by the end of 2024.
The company’s objective is to equip several hundred thousand vehicles annually with specially designed photovoltaic modules. This move represents a significant advancement in the integration of renewable energy sources into the automotive industry.
Robert Händel, the CEO of OPES Solar Mobility, has expressed his enthusiasm for this development, emphasizing the advantages of producing solar panels specifically designed for vehicles. He also highlighted the invaluable proximity of the new facility to esteemed research institutions such as Fraunhofer CSP and the University of Leipzig.
The selection of Zwenkau as the production site was attributed to the excellent transport infrastructure and connections, as well as the proximity to the European customer base. Händel also stressed the importance of supply chain security, particularly in the current landscape, stating that manufacturing outside the EU would pose significantly higher risks for vehicle manufacturers.
The new facility will focus on producing automotive solar panels with an output ranging from 95W to over 500W, known for their high area efficiency and light weight, at just 2.9 kg per square meter. This underscores OPES Solar Mobility’s commitment to developing products that are not only efficient but also environmentally friendly.
OPES Solar Mobility, a joint venture between OPES Solutions and a strategic German investor, specializes in the production of lightweight and flexible solar panels capable of withstanding various environmental factors such as high temperatures, impacts, vibrations, and high-pressure cleaning. The company prides itself on meeting vehicle standards, ensuring high durability, and delivering an outstanding price-performance ratio through its patented manufacturing processes and unique machinery lineup.
Furthermore, the company has a strong foundation in technology, holding multiple patents related to production processes and module designs. This expertise has been fostered through extensive production experience gained by the team at OPES Solutions plant in China, where they have produced over 10 million compact solar panels since 2015.
The establishment of this new facility represents a significant milestone for OPES Solar Mobility and a promising advancement in the realm of automotive solar technology. With their focus on innovation and sustainability, the company is poised to make a lasting impact on the automotive industry and contribute to a more environmentally conscious future.
