A leading technology company specialising in the development of advanced technology for various applications, such as the study of fossils, jet engines, viruses, and vaccines, has recently announced its expansion in Oxfordshire.
The Diamond Light Source, the UK’s national synchrotron light source, has obtained planning permission to expand its presence at the Harwell Campus in Oxfordshire, with the assistance of the National property consultancy Carter Jonas.
Utilising revolutionary technology, the Diamond Light Source operates as a powerful microscope, harnessing electrons to produce intense light for the study of diverse subjects.
The proposed expansion is in preparation for the upcoming Diamond-II upgrade, a crucial milestone in the advancement of research technologies. It involves the installation of a new machine and beamlines, as well as upgrades to optics, detectors, sample environments, delivery capabilities, and computing systems.
In addition to technical facilities, the extended site will provide space for assembly processes, storage, offices, and laboratories, accommodating around 100 staff members.
The expanded site, encompassing 0.97 hectares, is designed to include various offices and flexible working spaces, along with a staff rest area and balcony for a relaxed and collaborative environment.
Nicky Brock, a Partner at Carter Jonas in Oxford, expressed satisfaction with the achievement of planning consent, highlighting its importance in keeping the Synchrotron’s research at the forefront of technology on a global scale.
