The Key to a Healthy Heart: Lifestyle Management and Quality Sleep

Dr. TS Kler, a distinguished cardiologist and chairman of BLK-Max Heart and Vascular Institute in New Delhi, as well as a recipient of the Padma Bhushan award, underscored the significance of leading a stress-free life through lifestyle management, regular exercise, and quality sleep as essential factors for maintaining a healthy heart.

In a recent talk session on “Dil Se Dil Tak” organized by the internal quality assurance cell (IQAC) of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) at the Dr. Manmohan Singh Auditorium, Dr. Kler imparted valuable insights to the audience. He emphasized the importance of integrating lifestyle practices that foster overall well-being and heart health.

The event provided an opportunity for the audience to engage with Dr. Kler, discussing various health-related concerns. The talk session was chaired by the university vice-chancellor (V-C) Satbir Singh Gosal, who acknowledged and commended the speaker for his enlightening discourse. Jagdeep Singh Sandhu, coordinator of IQAC, extended a warm welcome to both the speaker and the participants.

The distinguished gathering included notable alumni of Punjab Agricultural University, such as HS Sohi and Jasbir Cheema, along with senior officials, directors, deans of constituent colleges, department heads, faculty, non-teaching staff (current and retired), and students of the university, all of whom actively participated in the informative session.

The talk was expertly conducted by PAU’s internal quality assurance cell assistant coordinator, Surabhi Mahajan, ensuring that the event ran smoothly and efficiently.

Dr. Kler’s emphasis on lifestyle management, regular exercise, and quality sleep aligns with established medical research that underscores the importance of these factors in promoting cardiovascular health. The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, as well as muscle-strengthening activities on two or more days a week, to maintain a healthy heart.

Furthermore, numerous studies have demonstrated the link between insufficient sleep and an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. The National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to support overall health and well-being.

As we navigate the demands of modern life, it is crucial to prioritise self-care and healthy lifestyle choices. By incorporating regular physical activity, mindful stress management, and quality sleep into our daily routines, we can proactively safeguard our heart health and overall well-being.

In conclusion, Dr. TS Kler’s expert insights serve as a valuable reminder of the importance of lifestyle management and quality sleep in maintaining a healthy heart. As we take proactive steps to prioritise our health, let us remember that small changes in our daily habits can have a significant impact on our overall well-being, including the health of our hearts.
