St Philomena College in Puttur recently hosted a one-day workshop titled ‘Innovate for Impact: A Journey in Social Entrepreneurship.’ The event, organized by the department of business administration, management association, and institution’s innovation councils, brought together students and professionals alike who shared a common interest in the field of social entrepreneurship.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural address by J C Krishna Mohan P S, proprietor of Golex Enterprises and an alumnus of the college. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the college, highlighted the importance of curiosity and innovation in the development of effective business models. He also emphasized the crucial role that successful entrepreneurship plays in driving societal progress, encouraging students to actively participate in the training program to gain practical insights into social entrepreneurship.
In his inaugural speech, Krishna Mohan P S shed light on the various start-up opportunities in India and elaborated on the different schemes that support social entrepreneurship. He commended the institute for organizing a skill enhancement workshop with a strong focus on nurturing entrepreneurial insight among the students.
The workshop featured three technical lectures, each covering essential aspects of social entrepreneurship. Krishna Mohan P S delivered the first lecture, providing valuable insights into successful social enterprises while highlighting the crucial characteristics that set them apart from traditional businesses. Madhuranath R, head of marketing at Slang Lab, Bengaluru, enlightened participants on social enterprise models, emphasizing the importance of aligning business goals with social concerns and exploring sustainable revenue models. Dr Nandish Y D, associate professor of social work at Uppinangadi Government First Class College, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the role of emotional intelligence in social enterprise, underscoring its significance in fostering empathetic leadership and effective stress management within the business realm.
The program began with a prayer by Krishita and her team, followed by a warm welcome extended by Dr Radhakrishna Gowda, dean and head of the business administration department. Prashant Rai, management association coordinator, expressed gratitude for the success of the workshop, while Rashi Rai expertly compered the entire event. Assistant Professors Pushpa N and Abhishek Suvarna from the business administration department also added to the learning experience of the workshop.
The workshop on social entrepreneurship undoubtedly provided participants with valuable insights and practical knowledge that they can apply in the real world. With an emphasis on fostering business models with a strong societal impact, this workshop has underscored the transformative potential of entrepreneurship and innovation in driving social change.
