Indian Entrepreneurs Shine Bright in Global Market, According to Naspers CEO

Phuti Mahanyele, the Chief Executive Officer of Naspers South Africa, a prominent global technology investment group, recently expressed her admiration for the exceptional ability of Indian entrepreneurs to build products at scale and value. Speaking at an event in South Africa, Mahanyele highlighted the leading roles of India and South Africa in digital transformation and the collaborative efforts to leverage the power of technology.

The event, which took place on International Women’s Day, was a platform to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women across various fields. Hosted by the Consulate General of India, the India Business Forum, and the Johannesburg Indian Women’s Association, the event also focused on charitable projects.

Mahanyele expressed her admiration for Indian entrepreneurs and their focus on inclusion and development, particularly noting the significant strides made during her visit to Delhi in November. Naspers has a strong presence and substantial investments in India, reflecting the company’s commitment to the country as a high-priority market with a strong emphasis on technology.

Recognizing the technological advancements and digital transformations in both India and South Africa, Mahanyele emphasized the potential for driving efficiencies and creating new opportunities for businesses across their respective economies. However, she also highlighted the importance of ensuring that women are not left behind in the process of technological advancement.

In her address, Mahanyele acknowledged the pervasive issue of gender-based violence in both nations but commended the proactive stance taken by leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Cyril Ramaphosa in addressing these challenges. She also mentioned the significant representation of women in leadership roles at Invest India, a clear indication of India’s commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs.

Despite the progress, Mahanyele stressed the need for continuous efforts to address gender-based violence and promote gender equality within the entrepreneurial ecosystem. As the leader of a prominent company listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange, she expressed her delight in learning that India ranks second out of 40 countries for its social support for women entrepreneurs.

The recognition and praise from a prominent figure such as Phuti Mahanyele is a testament to the remarkable contributions of Indian entrepreneurs and the country’s growing influence in the global market. With a focus on inclusive growth and technological innovation, India continues to strengthen its position as a key player in the global entrepreneurial landscape.

As India and South Africa stand at the forefront of digital transformation and technological advancement, the collaborative efforts and investments from companies like Naspers further underscore the potential for mutual growth and innovation. It is imperative to build on these foundations and continue supporting and empowering entrepreneurs, particularly women, to drive sustainable and inclusive economic development.
