Empowerment Centre for Entrepreneurs in Leeds to Undergo State-of-the-Art Upgrades

The Leeds City Council has allocated a substantial amount of £80,000 from the Innovation@Leeds capital fund to furnish the Leeds Media Centre with state-of-the-art equipment, including contemporary furniture, video conferencing facilities, and computer hardware. This initiative is aimed at supporting local entrepreneurs and promoting innovation within the city.

Following a significant £1.8 million refurbishment, the Leeds Media Centre reopened in September with substantial structural enhancements such as a new roof, windows, and twelve new business units on two floors. The project was led by Unity Enterprise in collaboration with the Leeds City Council and the European Regional Development Fund.

Unity Enterprise, a not-for-profit subsidiary of Unity Homes and Enterprise, oversees three business locations near the city centre – Chapeltown Enterprise Centre, Unity Business Centre, and Leeds Media Centre. Together, they provide 142 managed workspaces and support over 90 local businesses, creating employment opportunities for over 900 individuals.

The upcoming business hub is set to launch in the spring with a week-long series of events focused on entrepreneurship. Detailed information about the launch events will be released shortly.

Adrian Green, Manager of Unity Enterprise, expressed appreciation to the Leeds City Council for their steadfast support and commitment to furnishing the business hub with the best available resources. He underscored the organization’s mission to empower local entrepreneurs and create opportunities for growth and success within the city.

Councillor Jonathan Pryor, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Economy, Culture and Education at Leeds City Council, lauded the development as a significant milestone for the city, emphasizing the commitment to fostering an ecosystem that supports entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds and provides access to essential resources and support programs.

Cedric Boston, Chief Executive of Unity Homes and Enterprise, emphasized the potential of the new business hub to transform lives by fostering career growth, generating employment opportunities, and contributing to local prosperity. He also reiterated a commitment to remaining at the forefront of initiatives aimed at supporting sustainable business development in the region.

The efforts to enhance and equip the Leeds Media Centre as a hub for entrepreneurship are a testament to the collective commitment of the Leeds City Council, Unity Enterprise, and their partners towards fostering a vibrant and inclusive business landscape within the city. This initiative is a clear demonstration of the dedication to creating an environment that spurs innovation and drives sustainable economic growth.

The significant investment made by the Leeds City Council towards equipping the business hub is a key step in unlocking the potential of local entrepreneurs and creating opportunities for growth and success within the community. As the project progresses, it is poised to serve as a beacon of empowerment and a catalyst for innovation and entrepreneurship in Leeds.
