The Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology is leading a large-scale transformation of Ataturk Airport, which will see its terminals redeveloped into the future Terminal Istanbul. This ambitious project aims to establish the world’s largest centre for entrepreneurial innovation and technological advancement.
Terminal Istanbul is central to Turkey’s technological aspirations, with a focus on nurturing and supporting emerging entrepreneurs. Spanning an impressive 138,600 square meters, it is set to accommodate 2,000 technology companies, solidifying its position as Turkey’s largest technopark.
The future Terminal Istanbul will offer a wide range of cutting-edge facilities, including state-of-the-art offices, incubation centres, accelerator programs, co-working spaces, and R&D labs, all designed to catalyse the development of innovative projects.
In a statement, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir emphasized the significant role of the project, stating, “We are embarking on a new journey by adding a new dimension to this centre. We are in the process of transforming the Ataturk Airport terminals into the world’s foremost technology and entrepreneurship hub, under the brand of Terminal Istanbul.”
Additionally, Terminal Istanbul aims to attract global tech companies and investment funds, positioning itself as a new focal point for strengthening the relationship between entrepreneurship and society. It will include various initiatives such as Deneyap Technology Workshops, Science Centers, Coding Schools, and a Children’s University within its framework.
These facilities will be dedicated to the development of young individuals, providing hands-on, team-based learning experiences and cutting-edge software training for the next generation. For example, the Children’s University will offer an extensive educational environment spanning 2,700 square meters, engaging thousands of children aged 10-13 annually in practical science and technology programmes.
Selcuk Bayraktar, Chairman of Baykar, emphasized the immense potential of the project, stating, “This project will nurture young talents capable of making a significant global impact, particularly in the high technology sector.”
Turkcell CEO Ali Taha Koc also expressed the company’s unwavering commitment to the project, stating, “As Turkey’s leading telecommunications company, Turkcell is excited to be a stakeholder in Terminal Istanbul, which serves as a catalyst for digital transformation.” Koc emphasized Turkcell’s support for burgeoning entrepreneurs in the digital and wireless communication technology realms.
The extensive redevelopment of Ataturk Airport into Terminal Istanbul represents a transformative endeavour that holds the promise of establishing Istanbul as a vibrant and influential hub for technology and entrepreneurship on the global stage.
