Revolutionary Tyre Technology Coming to Europe

3 min read

Goodyear Farm Tyres is poised to revolutionise the agriculture industry in Europe with the establishment of a new Low Sidewall Technology development centre in France. This strategic move by Titan International marked the reintroduction of Goodyear Farm Tyres to the European market in 2019, and is anticipated to markedly enhance the availability of low inflation pressure tyres for European distributors and customers.

The forthcoming commencement of operations for the new manufacturing and customisation centre for Low Sidewall Technology wheel and tyre assemblies in France is scheduled for the beginning of April. This represents a significant departure from past practices, as all production and assembly of LSW products previously took place in the United States. The relocation to a base in France signifies that these innovative tyres will now be delivered to European countries with increased speed and flexibility, as stated by Goodyear.

LSW assemblies have garnered worldwide success, as they are capable of operating at inflation pressures up to 40% lower than standard tyres, effectively reducing soil compaction. This is achieved through a larger rim diameter and smaller sidewall, which facilitates improved flotation properties on heavier soils.

Lindsay Hart, the European Sales Director for Goodyear Farm Tyres, conveyed enthusiasm about the impact of this development, asserting, “This represents a significant advancement for our LSW offering across Europe and it will yield substantial benefits for distributors and farmers alike. We will now be better positioned to supply the LSW products with increased speed and efficiency. Dealers will have the ability to order the products in smaller quantities than previously possible, and with enhanced flexibility in terms of the various wheel offsets required for different applications.”

In Europe, the 1100/45R46 and 1000/45R32 are identified as the most popular front and rear combinations of LSW products for farmers. The agricultural products manager for Goodyear Farm Tyres, Scott Sloan, elucidated, “LSW technology was developed to address the everyday challenges that growers encounter and to mitigate those difficulties. The lower sidewall essentially eliminates road lope and also diminishes the sidewall’s susceptibility to buckle under high draft loads, significantly reducing or eliminating the issue of power hop.”

This advancement in tyre technology is anticipated to not only bolster efficiency and productivity in agriculture, but also substantially improve the accessibility and flexibility of these pioneering products for European farmers. With the official onset of manufacturing and customisation operations in France, the future appears auspicious for the widespread adoption of Low Sidewall Technology in the European market.
