In the upcoming event hosted by CMS, the focus will be on the increasing risk of class action lawsuits within Scotland’s thriving food and drink (F&D) sector.
The session, scheduled to be conducted online, will specifically address the looming threat of class action proceedings, a legal avenue that recently became available in Scotland. Furthermore, the event will analyze the specific implications of such lawsuits for Scotland’s £10.7bn F&D industry.
This event is tailored for professionals within the F&D sector and aims to provide a comprehensive overview of class action procedures in both Scotland and England. Additionally, it seeks to explore how these legal cases are being managed from a procedural standpoint, with an emphasis on identifying and mitigating risks.
The session will shed light on the various class action risks confronting the F&D sector, including product liability, consumer claims, sustainability, and employment matters. The event will also examine case studies of recent class action incidents impacting the industry.
Drawing on their expertise, CMS experts will share practical insights into how companies can proactively manage these risks. This will involve early issue identification and the implementation of effective mitigation strategies to stave off potential claims.
The seminar will be led by CMS partners and disputes resolution specialists, Will Anderson and Graeme MacLeod. Mr Anderson emphasized, “Class action claims are a reality and are only growing in number. The risks to food producers and suppliers come in many forms, through employees, consumers or even shareholders. At our online event, we will explore some of the key risks and how F&D operators can be proactive in mitigating the threat they present to their business.”
The free-to-attend event is scheduled to be held online at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, 30 April. Interested participants can find registration details here.
By attending this event and taking into consideration the guidance and insights provided, F&D operators can equip themselves with the knowledge and strategies necessary to navigate the complex landscape of class action risks. This initiative by CMS serves as a valuable opportunity for professionals within the industry to gain a deeper understanding of the evolving legal threats facing the F&D sector.
