Revolutionizing Soldier Training with Holistic Health and Fitness Program

2 min read

Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 10th Mountain Division (LI) recently participated in an innovative Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) class at Fort Drum, New York. This program aims to improve running techniques and overall health in an era where physical activity is on the decline.

With the increasing prevalence of sedentary lifestyles, programs like H2F are becoming increasingly crucial. This class offers Soldiers the necessary support and resources to enhance their fitness and overall well-being in a sustainable manner, in an effort to combat the alarming 20% of Soldiers who do not complete the first two years of their contract.

Mark Taysom, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade H2F program director, emphasized the importance of addressing this issue to prevent the loss of valuable experience within the Army. By empowering Soldiers to achieve their fitness goals and prevent injuries, the H2F class imparts vital skills and knowledge, including proper techniques, personalized workout plans, and motivation.

Taysom pointed out the need for a paradigm shift in the Army’s training approach, with a focus on sustainable methods that allow the majority, rather than a select few, to excel and flourish. This change not only translates to physical benefits but also positively impacts mental health, stress management, and overall well-being.

Sgt. Josiah Clark, an information technology specialist with HHBN, highlighted the significance of improving running mechanics to prevent injuries and maintain physical fitness. By doing so, Soldiers are better prepared to handle the demands of their roles and less susceptible to health issues.

It is clear that the H2F class is aimed at equipping Soldiers with the tools and knowledge needed to adapt and maintain their physical and mental health in an ever-changing world. By prioritising healthy lifestyle choices and well-being, Soldiers can enhance their performance and effectiveness in their military duties.

This holistic approach to fitness and readiness is instrumental in ensuring that Soldiers are fully prepared to meet the requirements of their roles and uphold the standards of the military. Through education and training, the H2F program aims to revolutionize Soldier training, preparing them for the challenges they may face with a focus on both physical and mental well-being.
