Kia has made a significant impact at the 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition by showcasing its cutting-edge EV models and innovative smart driving technologies. Highlighting its commitment to providing Chinese customers with top-quality, forward-thinking EVs, Kia unveiled the Kia EV5 and Kia EV6 models, as well as the upgraded Sonet specifically designed for the Chinese market.
During its press conference, Kia revealed its vision and technology roadmap for the ‘EV Brand Transformation’. The company’s innovative approach was evident through the introduction of the Kia EV5 long-range model in a captivating musical-style product showcase. By showcasing real-life stories of Kia customers in China, the company further emphasised its dedication to delivering exceptional electric vehicles.
The Kia EV5, an all-electric compact SUV, is the first of its kind to be produced locally in China. It is the third dedicated EV built upon the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) – known for its modular design and exceptional adaptability. Offering three variations – standard, long-range, and long-range AWD – the EV5 aims to set new standards in the electric vehicle market. The long-range model, in particular, with its 88.1-kWh battery and 160-kW motor, is targeting an impressive range of 720 km per charge, while the long-range AWD model will boast a combined output of 233 kW.
Furthermore, the EV5 comes equipped with several innovative, customer-driven features. These include relaxation seats with massage functions, a console-integrated refrigerator/warmer, and a multi-table luggage board to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable mobility experience. Additionally, it features advanced driving assist technologies such as Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2) and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2), highlighting Kia’s commitment to ensuring driver safety and convenience.
In addition to the EV5 showcase, Kia introduced the revolutionary Universal Wheel Drive System (‘Uni Wheel’). This groundbreaking vehicle drive system has been designed to improve the available space inside an EV by relocating the main drive system components to the vacant space within the wheel hub. By doing so, Kia has devised an entirely new structure for the drive system, exemplifying the brand’s dedication to innovation and advancement.
Kia also announced its plan to develop L4 Smart Driving Technology specifically for the Chinese market. As part of this initiative, the company is currently conducting extensive testing across China to ensure optimal performance in various driving conditions, further underlining its commitment to delivering state-of-the-art solutions to its customers.
The unveiling of the new Kia Sonet for the Chinese market further solidifies Kia’s position as a leading automotive brand. With a range of smart and sophisticated features, including the Smart Driving System, Forward-Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA), and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), the Sonet offers an enhanced driving experience for Chinese consumers. Additionally, its 10.25-inch dual-color screen and Baidu Connect 3.0 provide passengers with greater levels of engagement and enjoyment, further highlighting Kia’s dedication to meeting the evolving needs of its customers.
As the public days of the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition unfold, Kia’s exhibition booth, covering approximately 1,100 square meters, will provide visitors with the opportunity to experience the brand’s latest EVs and other key models tailored for the Chinese market. There will be a dedicated zone where visitors can learn more about the brand’s new technologies that were introduced during the press conference, further cementing Kia’s reputation as a trailblazer in the automotive industry.
