Leadership Change at UL’s Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology Centre

The University of Limerick has recently announced the appointment of Damon Warnock, a seasoned leader in the pharmaceutical industry, as the new Director of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology Centre (PMTC). Damon brings with him extensive experience from his previous roles at Alkermes and Elan, equipping him with the necessary skills to lead the research centre, which operates within UL’s Bernal Institute.

Damon’s appointment holds considerable significance due to his past collaborations with PMTC, providing him with a unique perspective on the centre’s role in the pharmaceutical industry. As a centre funded by Enterprise Ireland in partnership with IDA Ireland, PMTC serves as an applied research and innovation centre, focusing on leveraging advanced technology and analytics to address contemporary manufacturing challenges impacting efficiency and sustainability in the pharmaceutical sector.

In his new role, Damon has expressed his enthusiasm for guiding PMTC in its next phase of development, with a focus on expanding the industry’s access to effective technology and data analytics solutions as part of Phase three funding. He has emphasized the value of industry collaboration in maintaining the pharmaceutical industry as a vital component of Ireland’s industrial infrastructure.

Professor Norelee Kennedy, Vice President of Research at UL, welcomed Damon’s appointment, highlighting his industry experience as a valuable asset that will enable PMTC to further its collaborations with indigenous companies and strengthen links with leading pharmaceutical firms in Ireland.

Padraig Somers, Chair of the PMTC Centre Steering Committee, also expressed his delight at Damon’s appointment, noting that Damon’s industry experience and understanding of advanced analytics will enhance the PMTC leadership team. He extended his best wishes, emphasizing Damon’s role in advancing the centre’s mandate of supporting biopharmaceutical manufacturing in Ireland through industry-led applied research.
