Whitby Distillery, a gin producer based in Yorkshire, has recently launched a crowd-funding campaign with the aim of facilitating sustainable growth and inviting potential investors to partake in its business operations.
The £400,000 equity crowd-funding campaign, managed by Seedrs, is geared towards supporting the company’s planned expansion in various sectors, including trade, retail, tourism, and export.
Established in 2017 by Jessica Slater and Luke Pentith, Whitby Distillery, the producer of Whitby Gin, has experienced significant growth, with its products now available in over 200 outlets across the UK.
Luke Pentith stated, “Our equity crowdfunding initiative on Seedrs will involve the sale of a small portion of the business in the form of shares to our customers and the public. This presents an excellent opportunity to be part of our thriving business, which has demonstrated sustainable growth and immense potential over the years.”
A primary project for Whitby Gin in the near future involves the restoration of two derelict barns at Abbey Lands, located on the south-west corner of the Whitby Abbey grounds. With planning permission secured and a 100-year lease in place, the company is looking to create an iconic distillery visitor experience at this historic location.
The expansion plans extend beyond mere fundraising, as Luke Pentith points out, “This is not just about raising capital; it’s an invitation to actively contribute to our growth and to own a share of the dream. Once our new distillery is fully operational, we anticipate a 500% business growth over the next five years.”
The upcoming distillery and visitor centre are expected to significantly enhance the brand’s presence across the UK, as mentioned by Jess Slater, who added, “The launch of our distillery and visitor centre will be a game-changer for us, amplifying our brand reach and enabling us to innovate and introduce exciting new spirits and products.”
In addition to boosting production, the new premises are expected to accommodate tour experiences and provide a unique leisure and function space for the local community.
The company’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its eco-friendly distillery design, which is aimed at minimizing environmental impact. Jess Slater highlighted, “Our new eco-friendly distillery represents a substantial investment in the local community and the future of the town. Once operational, we anticipate up to 25 employees at the distillery, which will also feature a visitor centre showcasing our production process and paying homage to the cultural heritage of Whitby.”
With plans to incorporate sustainable practices such as wastewater reuse for irrigation and energy-efficient refurbishment, Whitby Distillery’s vision goes beyond business growth to include a commitment to environmental responsibility.
