Bank of America Grant Helps Expand Soles4Souls Entrepreneurship Program in Dominican Republic

Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization committed to fostering sustainable job opportunities and providing economic relief through the distribution of shoes and clothing, has been the beneficiary of a generous $150,000 grant from Bank of America. This grant will facilitate the expansion of Soles4Souls’ 4Opportunity program to the Dominican Republic, affording individuals in low-income communities the chance to establish small businesses by equipping them with affordable, high-quality shoes and apparel.

Since its inception in 2008, the 4Opportunity program has had a significant impact on under-resourced communities, particularly among women with limited access to the marketplace and avenues for economic empowerment. By ensuring a consistent supply of shoes and apparel, the program not only generates employment opportunities, but also contributes to reducing environmental waste by diverting unwanted shoes from landfills.

The endeavours of Soles4Souls have thus far averted 91 million pounds of shoes and clothing from being consigned to landfills across 34 countries, in addition to all 50 U.S. states and territories. By prolonging the lifespan of a pair of shoes by a minimum of 15 months, the organization has substantially curtailed the environmental impact of textile waste.

Buddy Teaster, President and CEO of Soles4Souls, conveyed his appreciation for Bank of America’s support, underscoring the transformative potential of the 4Opportunity program in disadvantaged communities. This grant will enable Soles4Souls to persist in its mission of assisting individuals in forging better lives for themselves and their families.

In conjunction with the grant, employees of Bank of America will participate in a shoe drive in aid of the 4Opportunity program. Through their collaboration with Soles4Souls, Bank of America has evinced its dedication to environmental sustainability and community development.

The impact of the 4Opportunity program transcends the mere creation of jobs, as research has evinced that women in low-income countries who are able to augment their household income are more inclined to invest in their children’s education, health, and safety, thereby ultimately breaking the cycle of poverty.

Soles4Souls’ work in the Dominican Republic, made feasible by the grant from Bank of America, will usher in new prospects for economic advancement and empowerment in communities in need. It is a testament to the potency of collaboration between non-profit organizations and corporate partners in effecting positive change.
