Egypt and Japan Join Forces to Enhance Medical Technology and Production

The Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply, and the Management of Medical Technology (UPA) has recently announced its collaboration with JMS Japan, a leading blood bag manufacturer, to establish a new production facility in Egypt. This exciting partnership was finalised during a meeting between UPA Chairperson Bahaa El-Din Zidan and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, where they discussed the significant progress and initiatives undertaken by the Authority.

The blood bag production project is a joint venture between UPA, represented by ECMI, JMS Japan, and Intervarma, the exclusive agent of JMS in Egypt. The agreement was signed in Singapore in the presence of the Egyptian ambassador, highlighting the global significance of this collaboration.

Zidan shared with Madbouly the successful outcome of his recent visit to Singapore, where he not only solidified the agreement with JMS Japan but also engaged with representatives from the Singaporean Ministry of Health, Ministry of Industry, and Chamber of Commerce. As a result, an agreement was reached with a prominent wheelchair manufacturer to localise production in Egypt, positioning the country as a pivotal hub for wheelchair manufacturing in the region.

Furthermore, Zidan discussed the upcoming Africa Health Conference, planned to be held in Egypt in June 2024, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. This important conference aims to convene stakeholders from across the continent to address the various challenges and opportunities in the healthcare sector, fostering collaboration and innovation.

Additionally, Zidan provided an update to Madbouly on the work of UPA committees focused on facilitating the establishment of medical device and supply factories in Egypt, as well as developing a unified strategy for localising vaccine production. These initiatives underscore Egypt’s commitment to enhancing its healthcare infrastructure and capabilities.

In response, Prime Minister Madbouly expressed his unwavering support for UPA’s endeavours and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to advancing the healthcare sector and ensuring accessibility to high-quality medical supplies for all Egyptians.

The collaboration between Egypt and Japan signifies a significant step towards enhancing medical technology and production capabilities in Egypt, ultimately contributing to the nation’s healthcare sector and the well-being of its citizens. Through strategic partnerships and proactive initiatives, Egypt is poised to elevate its position as a leader in healthcare innovation and development.
